As a manager, how do you look at people who have lots of questions and suggestions concerning their role?

Asked by Alan Lockhart

Hi Alan,

These are my personal views: Depending on the scenario, I would encourage people having relevant queries regarding the role. For example,

a. For a person who is joining an organization, it is crucial to understand their role, its importance and impact on different groups or activities to be able to gain confidence as well as understand their activities and its linkages. This helps them to see value in their work.

b. For a person taking on a new role or new assignment, it is very crucial to have the inquiry skills to be able to understand the role expectations, their present competency, the gaps if any to be filled in with relevant learning programs, the impact of deliverable et al.

c. Most importantly, people should believe and feel important in whatever they do to be able to be most productive and satisfied. when a person is happy with the work, their creative and innovative aspects are more strong and one can see the quality in their work.

I hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Sujatha
